Over the past few years, I have visited Toyota Center several times and each time has been exciting and extremely different.
Toyota Center resides in the heart of Houston and is an arena full of surprises. A who’s who of basketball legends are always walking the concourse inside of the arena.
Here are my thoughts on Toyota Center.
Pros
The first thing that will catch your eye once entering Toyota Center is the history displayed throughout the arena. From the concourse to the rafters, you will be looking at some of the NBA’s greats on display.
There are a large number of concession areas that have a variety of foods. You will find Texas BBQ, Tex-Mex and your general game foods. You really can’t go wrong with any selection at Toyota Center.
Toyota Center has fairly decent ticket prices depending on the section and match-up. The best deals are during the week but to make the most out of the experience, purchase tickets in advance because the price can rise depending on stature of the opponent.
The fan support for the Houston Rockets is something to brag about. They show up and show out every single game for their hometown team. They also love their Rockets history and wear it as a badge of honor every single game. The Red Rowdies also come to party every game so be prepared to cheer it up with the home crowd.
Cons
The arena is located in a very high traffic area of the city. Within a half mile radius of Toyota Center, there is Minute Maid Park, BBVA Compass Stadium and George R. Brown Convention Center.
When heading to Toyota Center, you have to check to see if any other events are going on at the same time. Houston is the Nation’s 4th largest city so checking the traffic is important to get to your destination on time.
Parking at Toyota can be expensive based on the other events going on near the arena. Street parking isn’t free until after 7pm and general parking in the lots within walking distance of the park range from $20 to $50. Parking is plentiful but if you’re from out of town, Lyft and Uber will be your best option.
Overall Game Day Experience
I would give Toyota Center an 8 out of 10. An arena with history on display and Hall of Fame players all around. A enthused fan base that show up to cheer every game. They have a NBA superstar in James Harden and a playing style sure to keep you entertained.
If you happen to make it to the Houston area, give Toyota Center a little bit of of your time. Oh and don’t forget to look up and view the legends.
